Review: Confessions of a Vampire’s Girlfriend by Kate Maxwell (Katie MacAlister)

Format: Paperback

Series: Ben & Fran Book 1 & 2

Pages 355

Published: November 2nd 2012

This novel is made up of two smaller novels from her YA Vampire series. Got Fangs? & Circus of the Darned.

I used to think all I wanted was to have a normal life. You know, where I could be one of the crowd and blend in, so no one would know just how different I am. But now I’m stuck in the middle of Hungary with my mom, working for a traveling fair with my psychics, magicians, and other really weird people, and somehow, blending in with this crowd doesn’t look so good.

Fortunately, there’s Benedikt. Yeah, he may be a vampire, but he has a motorcycle, he likes the mysterious horse I suddenly acquired, and best of all, he doesn’t think I’m the least bit freaky. So I’m supposed to redeem his soul — if his kisses are anything to go by, my new life may not be quite as bad as I imagined.

I’ve given up all hope of having a normal life. As if things aren’t freaky enough traveling around Europe with a group of witches, mediums, and magicians who make up my home-away-from-home (aka the GothFaire), now I also have to cope with a mysterious man who wants to steal my horse, and a time-travel counselor who insists I’m Cleopatra reincarnated.

I just want to go on a date with Benedikt, but when your boyfriend’s a vampire, nothing is easy. Not only is Ben keeping secrets from me, but somehow, I raised an entire battlefield of warring Viking ghosts– all of whom refuse to be sent back.

And I thought all I had to worry about was what to wear on my date…

I’ve read a few books by Katie MacAlister before, and I loved her humorous tales of Vampires from the Dark one series. I have yet to read the Ben & Fran Adult novel yet and thought I would start with the YA novel.

From what I understand KMac wanted to create a YA Vampire series, but unfortunately was unable to continue this series therefore it does end abruptly, leaving you wander what happened next.

It is worth the end. The novels are set in Europe in a Fair, called GothFaire. Like a circus, but for the paranormal. I really wished that this existed. There were palm readers, witches, Elvis impersonators, empaths, etc. I don’t know of any other fair except maybe Goth Week in Whitby, which I also would love to attend.

Anyway, the novel is about Fran, a 16 year old who can feel what’s on a persons mind by touching them with her hands. When there’s a thief about Frans mother enlists her help to find out who is it.

With the arrival of a Tall Dark Vampire, Fran’s life gets turned upside when she is told she is his Beloved. A woman who is destined to save a Vampires soul, with one bite.

Definitley will be adding COAVG to my fav YA Vampire Novels.
