Book Review: Obsidian by Jennifer L Armentrout (Lux #1)

STARTING OVER SUCKS

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring… until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

AND THEN HE OPENED HIS MOUTH

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something… unexpected happens.

THE HOT ALIEN LIVING NEXT DOOR MARKS ME

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

IF I DON’T KILL HIM FIRST, THAT IS

“I was always able to lose myself in reading. Books were a necessary escape I always gladly jumped into headfirst.” – Obsidian by JLA

I brought this a few years ago, because quite honestly it sounded like Roswell – the TV series. It was one of my favourites and was gutted it ended.

Fast forward to yesterday morning, and it popped up on Instagram (sorry cant remember whose account) and I thought.. right I’m gonna start reading this NOW.

Once I started, I could not put this down. It was outstanding!! I’ve read books by JLA before and knew I was in for a treat, but I didn’t know what I was missing out on.

Why Did I like it so much?

Firstly, Kat was an incredibly likeable character. She had a moral side to her which I liked, but she still had a ‘Bitch Switch’ that turned her feisty. She wasn’t a push over, even though she could have been vulnerable on many occasions.

Next her friend Dee was lively and so loyal to her. She had no reason too, but she cared so much for her friend and stood up for her when she knew her other friends were being mean to Kat.

The day my Internet was hooked up was better than having a hot guy check out my butt and ask for my phone number.

OBSIDIAN BY JLA

Daemon, is a jerk. Some of the things he said at times, made me want to hate him, and even at the end of the novel, I am not so sure I’m a fan.

The Plot was quick-paced. It was made this way by the quick witted conversion and equally the fast-paced action that happened.

Beautiful face. Beautiful body. Horrible attitude. It was the holy trinity of hot boys.

I gave this book 5 stars because it was everything a Young Adult fantasy/sci-fi novel should have – action, good rounded characters, Romance and secrets. Moving on to read the next — Onyx.
